2013 End Of Year Cowbell List

2013 is basically done, and with that, here is the End Year Cowbell List. Long time, loyal readers of my blog know how it goes. It is the bad, ugly and worst from this year since July. My list of repeat offenders continues to get shorter.  Beyoncé and Kobe Bryant, congratulations, you stayed off my list this time. Continue to do so in 2014 and beyond.

Repeat Offenders:

U.S. Justice System: It continues to fail us in many ways, especially depending upon where you live. I don't think I want to move to Florida or Texas now.

Kanye West: Dude you are about to receive your own personal award. Why would you release that type of horrible album?  It appears someone stays caught up in their feelings.

Royal Family: Why must we continue to care if Prince William and Kate had a baby, and what his name is? I'm glad I don't live in England either.

DMX: OK why have you not been deported yet?  I realize you are a troubled human being, but you do not need to be around the general population at the moment.

Atlanta Braves: All of those offseason moves, dominating the regular season, and still choking in the playoffs.  You are the Minnesota Vikings of the MLB.

Suh: You are now worse than Albert Haynesworth.  I sincerely believe after the Lions fire your head coach, Jim Schwartz, they should release you next.

VH-1: Your awful programming continues, and even your best movies have casting flaws. KeKe Palmer as Chilli, and Evan Ross as Dallas Austin? Do better VH-1.

Newbies:

Amanda Bynes: Yes you have made amends for your poor behavior.  But you must continue to act well before you start a dangerous trend.

Miley Cyrus: Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Just please put on some clothes, stop acting like a whore, and seek Jesus.

Wild Wings: You guys were already overrated, and now I'm done with your mediocre wings and awful customer service.

Yahoo! Mail: What's up with your inability to keep your mail secure and site and apps fully functional? Many have already switched to Gmail. Perhaps you should get it together before you become irrevelant like Hotmail or AOL.

School fundraisers: Please schools, STOP pimping these children to raise money to make your school better. Their job is to learn. And if any parent thinks that selling candy, doughnuts and poinsettias is going to send your child to DisneyWorld or DC, you need a reality check.

Congress and the federal government: You need to stop your childish bickering and come together as a nation again. Forget about party affiliation, race, class, and the leader of the free world and think of the American people, for once. China already basically owns us.

A-Rod: Apparently too many athletes think they're invincible and above the law. You may not play baseball again, or be enshrined into Cooperstown.

Riley Cooper: When you cannot control your liquor and your inner demons, you should stay inside and be quiet.  It appears to be a Florida Gators curse. I hope Joe Haden isn't next.

George Zimmerman: You are pulling an OJ. You got off with one of the most unjust murders of our era and you still can't stay out of trouble.  You should take DMX and hide out for good.

All of football: The game has attempted to become safer at all levels. It has become softer and less competitive.  A balance needs to be struck.

Miami Dolphins: There is no good reason why an NFL locker room should get this bad, this fast.  You lost two key players, which could have helped you make the playoffs.

President Barack Obama: Mr. POTUS, I still support you. But you cannot be taking silly selfies with another woman, while your wife sits by in disgust. You appear to have a good marriage so don't ruin it now.

Jason Kidd: Really Jason? You arguably had the worst cover-up of 2013. It's like you're asking David Stern to fire you.

Kandi Burress: You will never be able to keep a good, decent man like Todd if you don't stand up to your mother. You're in your late 30s, put on the big girl panties and grow up.

Peaches (TLC's first manager). Ok you haven't been revelant since gas was $1/gallon. Now you want to try and bash TLC as they're making a comeback and sue people? Give me a break! Please return to the cave you crawled out from under.

3-D Movies: OK this is completely out of hand now. Every single movie does not look better in 3-D!

Turn Up: This is one expression that I hope leaves with 2013, and goes in the graveyard with swag, real talk, and all of those other whack sayings.

Happy New Year to you all and thanks for reading my work every week!

Gabby, Barack, and Tebow: will people leave them alone already?

The 2012 Olympics in London, England are ending tonight. In a few weeks, the 2012 NFL season opens. Also, we have a presidential election in 2012, where President Barack Obama is vying against Republican Mitt Romney to become only the second Democrat since FDR to win back to back terms.

These 2012 Olympics have had several heroes and great storylines. Obviously one of the biggest stories was 16 year old gymnast Gabby Douglas.  She won three medals in her first Olympics, one of them a team gold with the "Fab Five" gymnastics team that became the first Olympic team to win that event since the Magnificent Seven in the Atlanta 1996 games. She is known worldwide and will return to the USA a multimillionaire and a household name. However, many folks would rather focus on how her hair looked during the events, or on how much debt her mother was in. That doesn't make much sense to me. What does any of that have to do with her abilities, talent and achievements?

President Barack Obama has been undergoing similar criticism since he was first elected four years ago. He is the nation's first Black president, and argubably the most scrutinized politican ever. He hasn't been perfect, as he is admittedly inexperienced. Nevertheless, he is doing an admirable job of cleaning up George W. Bush's eight year mess. He is bringing better healthcare, he helped eliminate Osama Bin Laden, the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan are coming home, and the economy is steadily improving. It seems, like Gabby, critics and haters do not want to give Obama the proper credit for what he has actually done. They want to slander him, and say they have yet to see change. There is a world of positive difference between now and 2008 if one looks carefully. Also, everything bad is not his fault either. He is STILL fixing Bush's mistakes, plus Congress makes the laws, and is refuting many bills he proposes. Folks really need to research all sides of an issue before throwing stones.

NFL quarterback Tim Tebow was the league's biggest story last year with the influence he had on the Denver Broncos, the Christian community, and the nation. He coined the term and the meme "tebowing" and gave folks lots of hope. Now he will get the opportunity to do this with the New York Jets, in a tough media market. People criticized him heavily as well, citing that he was too religious, overrated, a novelty, and that the defense carried him. Like it or not, Tebow has won at all levels of his sports life. He just puts that enthusiasm in a person to make you want to play with him. He has a strong love for the Lord and the game of football. It seems people would rather break down his flaws though.

This hating and negativity must end. Gabby, Obama and Tebow are human beings first. They are influences and role models. But they will err. However, remember they wouldn't be where they are without hard work, determination, and fortitude. There was only one perfect person to ever live, and he was crucified. These extraordinary but imperfect human beings shouldn't be crucified as well. One should not put down folks and make false accusations and rumors just because they don't like that person, or because you want to be that person. Instead, ignore these types of folks, and vote for someone you want to see in office. People were fed up with Bush, so they have given Obama a try. Also, look deep within yourself, realize you are not perfect either, and nurture what you are good at. We are all talented at something, and should strive to be the Gabby, Tebow or Barack at that talent.

We are one nation, one family. The patriotism shouldn't end now that the Olympics have. We need to support each other, love each other, and back each other. Negativity is in overabundance, so let's search for more positivity.

Sensitivity: don't feed that beast the wrong food

Ok okay this blog has been on the shelf for weeks. Now its time to get it out as we begin the last unofficial month of the summer season.

Basically, we all have things that annoy and pester us. It can be a TV show, a person, or simply a pet peeve. When one gets extreme and even emotional about it, that can be defined as being sensitive (or even hypersensitive).

Women are best known for being sensitive due to their emotions and such. However, many men are culprits of sensitivity as well. I myself have been guilty of being sensitive too many times. Sometimes, I could justify it. Other times, it was silly and I was upset for the wrong reasons.

Black people tend to get edgy when they sense racism, jokes about their hair, bad remarks about President Barack Obama, and especially when another race calls them/us the "N" word.

I never joined a black Greek organization in college. However, from the outside, I found that bashing a NPHC organization, or any of these members, was not tolerated. That is similar to folks that try to bash your family. I don't know about you, but I have my peeves and buttons. Three big ones are my Family, my Food, and my Finances. You just don't play around with those three in my book.

So when is a person "hypersensitive"? It's when they can't joke about anything, they're always mad and defensive, and just plain combative. They see every word you utter as an attack on them. They believe the entire world is against them, and that all of their shortcomings are someone else's fault. I believe at some point, one must chill out, take responsibility and realize that life is not that serious.

Referring to "feed the beast" I commented on a lady friend's status about her acting up. She said she was ok now that she had eaten. Jokingly, I said "feed the beast" She was upset at first, but then seemed cool about it. I realized that my words had a double meaning. I didn't mean that she herself was a beast. I meant that since she was calm after eating, it compared to a beast calming after being fed, the old "feed the beast" saying. It was harmless, I promise!

I've basically found that to be careful in what you say, especially when you know that person well. You know what buttons to push, and continuing to do so is inconsiderate. Also, get to know someone before making assumptions either way. You don't know what that person is going through. Give them some space.

Finally, be sure you know what beast you're dealing with, and feed it the proper food.
